Crane Associates calculated the economic benefits and return on investment from building a proposed whitewater park as part of the larger flood mitigation project, in the Bow River, downtown Calgary. The work included a national survey of river recreationists, a “wave carrying capacity” model to predict user volume; a regional river recreation demand model to determine total demand and capture rate of the proposed park; a custom-built Input-Output model to determine the direct, indirect and induced economic effects of local spending, and a final report with presention.
