Republic of Kosovo, ministry of EnvironmentKosovo is Europe’s newest country and is struggling to build its internal capacity to operate essential government ministries. Michael Crane was placed on a special 12-month assignment within the Ministry of Environment,Department of National Parks, to strengthen internal capacity and create an efficient governance and operational model. The work involved several interrelated projects including capacity assessments, analysis of government operations, a climate vulnerability analysis and corrective actions, and an eco-tourism strategic plan to generate private sector revenue that will pay for implementation. The work resulted in a strategic operations plan and a new business model. The plan received an implementation award of $1.0milUSD from the European Union which is now being implemented.
